Casey is our 12-year old Lab and she's been plagued with all sorts of problems. She had a hip replacement due to hip dysplasia, blew out her knee and had a knee replacement, and now has osteoarthritis in her elbows (do dogs have elbows?). In other words, she's well on her way to becoming the bionic dog so we figured what the heck, let's pull out all the stops.
Tomorrow Casey is going to have the first part of her stem cell treatment. Our veterinarian (Apple Valley Animal Hospital) will remove approximately 50 grams of fat from Casey under local anesthesia and will overnight them to Vet-Stem where they will be processed, concentrated and isolated. The regenerative stem cells will then be sent back for injection. The procedure is said to have 80% positive results.
We first learned of the procedure through an article that appeared in Time Magazine. Click here.
