Tim Holtz - 12 Tags of 2012 (December)

What a great way to end a year of tags. This month's December tag is Christmas themed (of course) but there's also a bonus tag from January 2012.  Once again I'm using all Stampin' Up! products when available but there are two non Stampin' Up! items; the poinsettia bling and the crackle paint on January's tag.   Hopefully, I succeeded in demonstrating that you didn't have to go out and buy all new products to emulate Tim Holtz's technique.

Thank you for taking the time to visit my blog and I'd like to wish you all a safe and happy holiday season.  At the bottom of my post is a link to all 12 tags.  I can't say that I had a favorite but I was amazed every month at what I could create.

Tim Holtz - 12 Tags of 2012 (November)

This month's tag is all about fall. I decided to do two versions since I wasn't sure the woodgrain from the Natural Composition designer series paper was going to work. Once again I'm using all Stampin' Up! products to show you that you don't have to go out and buy all new stuff. I started by embossing a leaf from the Autumn Splendor set in white embossing powder rather than clear so it would stand out more against the textured cardstock. I then added the Elegant Beginnings sentiment using black stazon ink and applied various colors of re-inkers with water, drying each time with the heat tool. I used the Cheesecloth background stamp to add additional interest. I finished each tag by distressing the edges, adding a button, a piece of burlap, and leaves cut out of cardstock.

Tim Holtz - 12 Tags of 2012 (October)

Here is this month's tag for October. Once again I used all Stampin' Up! products with a little help from my Silhouette. I started with Ghostly Greetings designer series paper and distressed the edges. I then copied Newsprint DSP onto tissue paper and adhered it with mono multi liquid glue. Next I sponged on pumpkin pie and lucky limeaid inks. I embossed both the spider and the text with black and hologram highlights embossing powders. The tags are from the It's A Date stamp set and the speckles in the background were created using the Wonderfully Worn stamp set.

**Bonus Tag** - 12 Tags of 2012

Although I loved the original tag I made for September, I really wanted to try the foil technique. So, I went searching through the garage and found some foil tape.  This turned out to be really awesome stuff.  I didn't have any alcohol ink so I used black StazOn which I managed to spread over the foil before it dried. I also had a leftover silhouette image from August's tag that I really wanted to use but I was having a hard time seeing the image when I placed it directly on the foil.  To solve the problem I chose a piece of burlap ribbon to contrast the hard industrial look of the foil.  Once again all the paper and embellishments are from Stampin' Up!.  The foil and burlap ribbon are not.

Tim Holtz - 12 Tags of 2012 (September)

The theme of this month's tag is faux industrial metal.  Using all Stampin' Up! products, I applied multiple layers of copper embossing powder until it was thick enough to stay warm and accept a rubber stamp impression.  I applied black StazOn to the edges of the tag to give it a worn or dirty look.  Since I didn't have any actual gears to attach I used a gear stamp both in the background and on a black piece of cardstock.

Tim Holtz - 12 Tags of 2012 (August)

This month's tag involved using a cameo or silhouette type image with a frame.  I started with basic gray textured card stock and used a texture plate in my big shot to add a slightly raised grid pattern. I then embossed portions of the grid with black embossing powder. The silhouette and the frame were cut out of basic black cardstock with my silhouette. I then used several stampin' up! punches to create the flowers and the petals. I finished the card by sponging silver ink over the frame, the flowers and the rhinestones.

Tim Holtz - 12 Tags of 2012 (July)

Happy 4th of July!  This month I decided to do two tags since I was feeling patriotic.  The stamp set is is an oldie but goodie from 2001 called Liberty for All.  Once again the stamp set and all the products shown are from Stampin' Up!  Unlike most of the country, our weather has been wonderful (i.e., less than 80 degrees) so I took these pictures outside. Enjoy and let me know which tag you like the best.

Tim Holtz - 12 Tags of 2012 (June)

I really enjoyed this month's tag.  The two boys in the photo are my husband's uncles from Ireland, Thomas and Sean Walsh.  I printed the photo on my inkjet and used Stampin' Write markers to color directly onto the photo to change the color of their shirts.  Once again, all products used were Stampin' Up! except for the little piece of film.

Tim Holtz - 12 Tags of 2012 (May)

Here is my interpretation of Tim's tag for May.  Once again all the products used are from Stampin' Up!. The only exception is the sewing pattern pdf which I purchased from Etsy and printed on tissue paper.  I used real red ink for the Eiffel Tower (Artistic Etchings stamp set) and distressed everything with chocolate chip ink.  As for the flower, I used the Blossoms Petal Builder punch, glued everything together and covered it with crystal effects.  The stem was made using Pear Pizzazz seam binding ribbon.
