Happy Mother's Day!

Beautiful sticker sheets from papergame.co served as the base for this card. While they were advertised as Japanese, the writing is most likely Chinese. The washi tape and the butterfly/moth rub ons are from Cocoa Daisy. The sentiment is from SU.

Happy Birthday #2

One of my best friend's from high school is celebrating a birthday this month. She has been going through some tough times with her parents and doesn't take much time for herself. Although it's a small gesture, I thought this Tim Holtz inspired butterfly card would put a smile on her face. The paper is from Idea-ology and the butterfly stamp is from SU.

Tag Birthday Card

I've had this tag sitting in my scrap pile forever and had never thought of using it on a card until recently. The butterfly was a last minute addition to what was meant to be a masculine card. Happy Birthday Chip!

Easter - Butterfly Variations

I made these three cards using the exact same techniques, just different colors. I started by clear embossing the flower images on water color paper. I then washed each card with a mixture of colors. The butterfly was stamped on vellum and colored on the back with markers.

Stuck?! Layout #3 (Feb) - Le Tour

A few weeks ago we participated in the Tour de Palm Springs, an annual charity ride that we've been doing for 3 years. The weather was absolutely perfect as was the company. This is my third layout for the month for Stuck?!Sketches.

Happy Easter!

I got the idea for this card off of Pinterest and "Delusional1". Such a cute idea! Hope you have a great Easter Sunday!

Tim Holtz - 12 Tags of 2016 (Mar)

For this month's tag from Tim, I used cardboard to create the texture and tore away pieces to expose the corrugation. For the texture within the butterfly I opted to use an embossing folder and markers. Since my butterfly die was so large I had to turn the tag horizontally which I believe is a first for me.

OWH - July Challenge

Operation Write Home is a great organization that will be closing it's doors in August.  If you'd like to donate cards please click here. For this card I used SU's new stamp set called "Watercolor Wings" with the matching die and the new brickwall embossing folder. The sentiment is from Heidi Swapp.

OWH - Sketch #252

Here is my card for Operation Write Home's sketch #252. The inspiration came from a tag I saw on Pinterest. Here's the link to the actual blog post. It was such a creative use of washi tape that I had to try it. I used the butterfly stamp from Stampin Up's "Nature's Perfection" set, covered it with strips of washi tape and ran it through my big shot. I then pulled back pieces of the washi tape using an exacto knife. Pretty cool effect.

Tim Holtz - 12 Tags of 2015 (Apr)

Here is this month's tag for Tim Holtz's monthly challenge. The flowers and the butterfly are from Stampin' Up's "Nature's Perfection" Sale-A-Bration stamp set and the sentiment is from the "Expressions" thinlits dies. Hope you enjoy and have a Happy Easter!

Tim Holtz - 12 Tags of 2015 (Mar)

Here is my tag for this month's challenge from Tim. Most of the products used are from Stampin' Up! except for the tape and the stencil...and yes I made the mistake of heat embossing with copper powder while the paste was wet but I kind of liked the grunge look and just kept going. The butterfly stamp is one of SU's classics!

OWH - Sketch #242

Here is this week's card for Operation Write Home's sketch #242. The butterfly is from SU's "Wonderful Wings" set (circa 2001). I embossed it with Classy Copper embossing powder and cut the image into 3/4" strips.

Tim Holtz - 12 Tags of 2014 (Sep)

Happy September and thank you for visiting my blog. For this month's tag, Tim featured a new technique using alcohol blending solution applied through a stencil to glossy paper. Unfortunately I could not get this technique to work and believe me I tried and tried with different inks, applicators and stencils. In the end I applied versamark through the stencil and embossed with clear embossing powder. The appearance is somewhat similar but the stenciled text ends up being slightly raised.

Compendium of Curiosities 3, Challenge 3

Happy Memorial Day! Here is my project showing the faux tea rose technique for Compendium of Curiosities 3, Challenge 3 from Linda Ledbetter. All the products used except for the tag base are from Stampin' Up! The flowers were cut using "Secret Garden" framelits and the butterflies are from the "Beautiful Butterflies" Bigz Die.

Tim Holtz - 12 Tags of 2014 (May)

Here is this month's tag for Tim Holtz's 12 Tags of 2014 challenge. To me this was quite a departure from Tim's previous tags and even more of a challenge for me since I did not have the shadowpress folder or a wide selection of embellishments. So with that I had to do some improvising. I started by cutting the word "beautiful" with my silhouette in two colors of cardstock with the idea that one would be placed in the background to create the shadow effect and it actually worked.

OWH - Sketch #220

Happy Sunday! Here is this week's card for Operation Write Home's sketch #220. I used a butterfly that I had created a while back using the acetate and tissue technique.

OWH - Sketch #207

Happy Sunday! For this week's sketch from Operation Write Home I recycled some unused cardstock elements from last week's card and added a butterfly that I had saved from a Hallmark thank you card.

Tim Holtz - 12 Tags of 2013 (Sep)

The theme for this month's tag from Tim is layered stencils. Although I don't have any stencils, I used a chevron paper punch and a serif alphabet die from Stampin' Up! and applied crackle paint and ink through them as if they were stencils. The hexagons were stamped with versamark and embossed with clear embossing powder.  The butterflies were stamped with StazOn so the ink would adhere to the embossing. The only non Stampin' Up! item is the typewriter letter from Levenger (no longer available).

Card Swap - Grid Technique

Here is this month's card swap for the grid technique. Rather than use a scoring board to create the grid lines, I used a texture plate which essentially achieved the same look but saved lots of time. The two-step butterfly stamp is from Stampin' Up?.

Bleaching Technique

Here is my swap for this month's technique. I used the "Inspired By Nature" stamp again and added a punched butterfly. I applied bleach to the edges of the card and then outlined the edge with faux stitching. The instructions are listed below.
