OWH - Sketch #234

Here is my card for this week's sketch from Operation Write Home. The shell was stamped on watercolor paper using StazOn and I used Stampin' Write Markers and a watercolor brush to apply the colors. I've also included another card below that I will be using for a card swap later this week. Hope you're having a great Sunday and thanks for visiting my blog.

OWH - Sketch #174

Happy Memorial Day weekend and thanks to everyone who visited my blog and participated in Operation Write Home's Blog Hop. For this week's sketch I wanted to do something with a summer or beach theme and found this starfish stamp from Stampin' Up's "Seaside" set. I used mostly scrap cardstock, a piece of torn vellum, and an embellishment from the retired hodgepodge hardware set.

Batik Technique

I started by stamping and embossing the starfish image.  With this technique you can either use a colored ink with clear emboss or a colored embossing powder.  After heat embossing with a heat tool I then applied various inks and stamped images to the tag and wiped away the images or inks applied over the starfish.  (The embossing makes the image resist anything applied over the slick surface.)  Below are examples of two other techniques, rusted enamel and resist; all using embossing.
